Privacy Policy

Three things are collected, and only one of them happens without you doing anything.

• Analytics. Google Analytics records that a page was viewed, roughly where in the world from, and which device. This runs on page load.
• The contact form. Your name, email address and message, if you choose to send one.
• The email lists. Your email address, if you choose to join the newsletter or the course waitlist.

Nothing here is sold, and nothing is shared with anyone beyond the service providers named further down, each of which only ever sees what it needs to do its job.

Google Analytics 4, measuring pages rather than people.

Analytics tells me which articles are read and which are ignored, which is what decides what gets written next. It records the page you are on, the referring link, an approximate location derived from your IP address, and coarse device and browser information. It does not receive your name or your email address, because the site never has those unless you type them into a form, and the form does not feed analytics.

Google acts as a processor for this and sets its own cookies to tell one visit apart from the next. Their explanation of what they do with it is at how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Opting out

Any tracker blocker will stop it, as will Google's own opt-out browser add-on. Blocking it costs you nothing on this site: no page depends on analytics loading, and nothing is gated behind it.

The contact form becomes an email and nothing else.

It takes your name, your email address and your message. Those three fields are sent to my own mailbox through Resend, the email provider this site uses, with the reply address set to yours so I can answer you directly. There is no database behind the form and no record of your message anywhere on this site. It exists as an email, in an inbox, and it stays there as long as the correspondence is useful.

Your IP address is used for one narrow purpose: the form accepts five messages per hour from the same address, to blunt spam. That counter lives in memory on the server, is never written to disk, and is wiped every time the site is redeployed.

An email address, on one of two lists, unsubscribable in one click.

The blog has a newsletter and the course page has a waitlist. Joining either stores your email address as a contact with Resend, tagged so I can tell the two apart. No name, no company, nothing else is asked for or kept.

Every email carries an unsubscribe link, and using it is the fastest way out. If you would rather be deleted outright than marked unsubscribed, email me and I will remove the contact.

One deliberate detail: if you sign up with an address that is already on the list, the page thanks you exactly as if it were new. That is on purpose, so the form cannot be used by a stranger to test whether a given address is subscribed.

No ads run on this site today.

There is no advertising code on any page, and no ad network receives anything about your visit. An application to Google AdSense is in progress, so this may change. If it does, this section will be rewritten to say so, with the date above updated, before any ad is served.

Every cookie this site sets, in full.

That is the whole list. The site sets no cookies of its own, because it has nothing to remember about you: no login, no basket, no saved preferences. Both cookies above disappear if you block analytics. Lifetimes are the defaults Google applies and are set by Google, not here.

The absences are worth stating plainly.

• No accounts. There is nothing to sign into, so there are no passwords and no profiles.
• No payments. Nothing is sold on this site, and no card details ever touch it.
• No embeds. No YouTube players, no social widgets, no comment system, no tracking pixels. Nothing on a page quietly calls another company.
• No fonts loaded from elsewhere. The typefaces are compiled into the site when it is built and served from this domain, so your browser never asks Google for them.
• No session recording. Nothing replays your mouse movements, scrolling or keystrokes.
• No selling or sharing. Your details are not passed to anyone for their own purposes, and never will be.

Three companies, each seeing only its own slice.

• Google (Analytics). Page views and the approximate location and device behind them. Never your name or email.
• Resend. Email delivery and the contact lists. Sees the contents of a message you send and any address you subscribe.
• The hosting provider. The site runs on a private server behind a proxy. Standard web server logs there record IP addresses and requested URLs, which is how any web server works and what makes it possible to diagnose an outage or an attack.

These companies operate internationally, so data reaching them may be processed outside your own country, including in the United States.

Ask, and it gets answered by a person.

Depending on where you live, data protection law may give you the right to ask what is held about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to object to its use, or to receive a copy. If you are in the UK or the European Economic Area, that is the UK GDPR and the GDPR. In Nigeria, it is the Nigeria Data Protection Act.

There is no form and no portal for this. Email hello@emmanuelakbi.com and say what you want done. Given how little is held, honouring a deletion request usually means removing a contact record and deleting an email thread, and I will confirm when it is done.

Not aimed at children.

This is a professional portfolio, a technical blog and a course for working engineers. It is not directed at children and collects nothing from them knowingly. If you believe a child has sent something through a form here, email me and I will delete it.

The date at the top is the version.

When what the site does changes, this page changes with it and the date is updated. There is no archive of previous versions, though the whole site is in version control, so the history of this page is a matter of record.
